10+ FREE Storyboard Templates

A storyboard is a graphical illustration of the sequence of scenes in a play, animation, video, or film; the main aim of a storyboard is to tell a story visually. It’s used for commercials, motion pictures, interactive media, television, and pre-visualizations, among others. A storyboard template makes assembling and sharing stories easier.

The storyboard panels consist of photos, custom drawings, and screenshots from comparable videos.

How to Make a Storyboard

  • Start with a template. Pick a piece of paper and draw several rectangles, leaving spaces in between for lines of script.
  • Add the script. After drawing the boxes, add a line or more of a text describing the scene in the rectangle.
  • Draft out the story. It’s now time to create the story by either drawing or using pictures, pieces of paper cut from a magazine, or storyboard tools you may find online. Use arrows to link the images. Although this process will be fun, remember you’ll invest a lot of time in the activity.
  • Include notes. Finally, add notes describing each scene. The text will explain what is happening in the story; also consider including special effects, audio music, or any sound effects that will make your story more appealing.
Story boards may look simple, but can be a confusing and complex undertaking for any beginner.
